bought my ticket

Dec 30th got my China visa and booked my flight through my wife's niece Kathy. So I am committed (let the apprehension begin). Not sure if the duration of this trip alone is not a little bit too much but we will see. Must say I am more than a little apprehensive. This is not a 3 week to India but almost 11 weeks alone. I am sure this will seem like a life time and I will spend many private moments thinking about what Lou is doing and thinking and everything. Would be better if Lou was with me. This will be the toughest part of the trip. She keeps referring to my trip as "when your gone" which is a terrible choice of words.

So anyway have settled on flying into Bangkok. Then the train to Ayuthaya  in Thailand and on to  Siem Reap for Angkor Wat Cambodia.

Question is which way to China. Phenon Penh to Siagon and up Vietnam or back to Bangkok and train to Vientane in Lao and on to Hanoi by bus or north through Lao to China.Could catch a river boat in Luang Prabang Lao and go up the Mekong through Myanmar, Lao, Thailand to Jingjong China.

Going to play it by ear.

still planning

well Tom has a bad back so we may go see him in Montreal for Christmas . I am now targeting Jan 11th to leave as that is the best price for the air ticket $1288.00 all in TO to PP then Beijing to TO . I use a a site called
Matrix ITA to search air tickets, then have to find an agent to obtain them.
Going to Phenom PenhCambodia to start. . Will stay there 3 days to get over jet lag and apply for visa to Vietnam if I decide to head that way to China. May go through Lao instead. Will play that one by ear.

Having been talking online to a New York lady about arranging a group to Tibet for  Feb. 20th. Have to have a group to get a Visa and in Tibet you have to have a guide every day so the more people the cheaper. Hoping to have 4 total. Should cost about 400US for 9 days plus transportation  to and from Lhasa, rooms, meals and entrance fees to monatries. So what do you get well, the permit or visa, guide, picked up at the train station, driver and jeep for trips to Gyantse and Shigatse.

getting ready

been checking flight deals but it is just an exercise at this point. Need to firm up the start date and that is dependent on our youngest son coming home for a late Christmas  Best place I have found so far is the Zuji Online site.
